Busy Season for Opening a Food Business - Beat the Rush!

Did you know that there is a season for starting up food businesses? Neither did I.

That was until I worked at the health department and witnessed the influx of new food businesses trying to open up each year in the spring. It is a common thing for new food busineses to plan and build and get ready all winter and then rush to get open in the spring.

How can you be ahead of the game? Start now! If you are thinking about getting a food business going next year definitely don’t wait to get started. Feel free to reach out to us if you need help knowing the steps you will need to take in order to get your business going.

One thing that holds people up is that most states require every food business to have at least one person with a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification. If you don’t have one a lot of health departments will actually not allow you to open until you obtain your certificate.

This is something you can do at any point to be prepared, but many people either knowingly or unknowingly put this off until the last step and then they have a “not being able to open” emergency on their hands.
